INTERNATIONAL SUMMER ACADEMY OF VISUAL ARTS CISNADIOARA
Every year in August, artists from Central and Eastern Europe are meeting in the Transylvanian village of Cisnadioara to share experience with established artists, get inspired from the diversity and work together in the natural surroundings of the Carpathian mountains, the fortress of the 13th Century and the village beneath, where traditions of the middle-age are preserved.
We are a leading platform for artistic exchange, creativity and diversity in Central and Eastern Europe.
THE SUMMER ACADEMY
Patronage, Archduchess Gabriela von Habsburg
"For me it was very clear from the beginning that I needed to support this idea.
Romania is blessed with great talents, especially in visual arts.
From my long-standing experience of teaching art, also in the Eastern countries, a private art academy will be an excellent tool to encourage these talents.
This academy will support the cultural identities and the cultural life of the surrounding regions and in turn contribute to a global society"
Daily seeing our high medieval castle from the 13th Century, we cannot really speak about a History of our summer academy, but it is an interesting story, how it started. It happened one Sunday morning in June 2021 in Cisnadioara. There had been a very inspiring breakfast, with discussions about art and education in Central Europe:
Archduchess Gabriela von Habsburg, the Swiss Entrepreneur and Art Collector Michael Pieper, the Curator and visual Artist Dr. Oana Ionel (1984 – 2023) and Art-Collector and Gallerist Thomas Emmerling. The result is the “International Summer Academy of Visual Arts Cisnadioara”
In 2022 we gave it a try and it had been a success, artists between 19 and 65 years from Germany, Austria and Romania came and worked together. Main disciplines of art we are working on are:
- Painting
- Drawing
- Photography / Video
- Digital Art
- Art-Theory
